Google Search Console launches search generative AI performance reports and an IA visibility control toggle

Google is testing new Search Console features, including a search generative AI performance report and content controls for AI search visibility.

Cool news for publishers! Google has recently shared that they are currently testing two new features in Google Search Console. They are introducing a Search Generative AI performance report and a control to block your content from generative AI search features. The report has been designed to help website owners understand their site’s visibility within the generative AI features on Search and Discover, while the toggle helps them gain more control over where their content appears.

Both new features are starting to be tested on a subset of website owners in the UK before Google expands them globally.

Google Seach Console Search Generative AI performance report

Google is launching a generative AI performance report in Google Search Console to provide impressions metrics within generative AI features on Search (AI Overviews and AI Mode) as well as generative AI features in Discover. It shows information about which pages appear in AI responses and in what countries. You’ll be able to:

  • Track how your organic impressions from Search generative AI experiences evolve over time.
  • Identify which pages receive the most and least impressions from generative AI features.
  • Gain insights into the sources of your generative AI impressions, such as device type and country.

What can you get in this report?

This report shows data about how your site performs in generative AI features on Google with separate views for Search and Discover. You’ll be able to track:

  • Impressioni: How often URLs from your site appeared in generative AI features in Google Search and Google Discover.
  • Pagine: Check which URLs appeared within Google’s AI features.
  • Paesi: Understand your visibility by country.
  • Dispositivi: Identify the devices people are using when seeing your website (available for Google Search results): desktop, tablet, or mobile.
  • Dates: Monitor your performance over time with hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly granularity.

Within the new report, you’ll get a view like in the picture below. For now, it only shows the insights from the total impressions but not click data. Google has stated that they want to help website owners understand what insights will be most helpful for informing their strategies and that they will continue to introduce additional metrics over time.

Who has access to this report?

As of June 2026, the new update has only been rolled out for testing to a handful of properties in the UK first before Google makes it widely available.

Publishers who haven’t received enough impressions in generative AI features on Google Search won’t be able to get these insights. Note that this may be because you’ve excluded your site from Search generative AI features. To make your site eligible for display in generative AI features, check out this article.

New Search Engine IA Control

In addition to the new report on Google Search, Google is also introducing controls that allow you to decide whether you want your content to appear in the generative IA search features on Search and Discover.

If you opt out, your website will not receive traffic or impressions from Google’s generative AI features. However, this control won’t be a ranking signal for search results outside of these generative AI Search features (AI Overviews and AI Mode).

Check out this resource by Google to learn more on how to configure it once it is available for your property.

Why does this update matter for publishers?

As users’ search preferences continue to change, publishers have been looking for ways to get more control over their content and access insights to track their IA visibility. Early this year, we got the introduction of IA performance reports in Bing Webmaster Tools and now Google is presenting its own solution. The new AI visibility control toggle and their latest Search Generative AI performance reports are Google’s next steps toward continuing to build content discovery opportunities for users and helping website owners to better engage with their audiences.

Adapting to the new IA search era

According to Google, more and more people are adopting their generative AI search features to find information. Therefore, they’ve been sharing their intentions to keep enhancing user experiences and at the same time provide website owners with the right tools as search preferences evolve, so they can navigate these shifts.
